Oman- Sayyid Khalid set to return as OFA chairman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Sayyid Khalid al Busaidy, the former chairman of the Oman Football Association (OFA), is all set to return to its helm for a third successive term after the OFA's election committee announced that he is the lone candidate for the post for the September 27 elections.Addressing mediapersons on Thursday, the closing day of filing nominations, Sheikh Saif al Khalili, the OFA's election committee chairman, said, ''Sayyid Khalid al Busaidy is the only candidate for the post of chairman while there are five candidates for the two posts of vice-chairman. A total of 22 contestants have filed for the remaining nine posts for [board] members.''The five candidates for the two posts of vice-chairman are Sheikh Salim al Alawi, Sheikh Naif al Marhoon, Saleh al Farsi, Mohammed al Alawi and Sheikh Abdullah al Mukhaini.Among the 22 who will contest to become board members, six were members of the previous OFA board led by Sayyid Khalid.The previous group had resigned on August 27 to avoid the enforcement of a court verdict to declare the board invalid following an adverse verdict on the 2011 elections.Those seeking relection are Humaid al Jabri, Nasser al Balushi, Ahmed al Habsi, Sheikh Mansoor al Hajri, Salim Ghareeb and Abdulrahim Shaheen al Balushi.
