Apple iPhone5 announcement slated for Wed

(MENAFN- ProactiveInvestors - Australia) Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is expected to reveal the iPhone5 on Wednesday at its media event in San Francisco. Apple shares typically rally ahead of, and sell off after, a major product launch. They have gained 15% in the past six weeks to touch an all-time high on Monday. Last week, the Cupertino, California-based tech company sent out an esoteric invite that made subtle hints on what the event would unveil, including a faded drop-shadow of the number five. According to rumours and leaked reports, the new generation smartphone may boast a larger screen and LTE (Long Term Evolution) connectivity, or 4G. The new device is also expected to be thinner and taller, with an aluminum and glass body that will feature a new dock connector. The new eight pin dock connector, cut from the original 30 pin dock connector, may pose as a compatibility issue for existing Apple device owners. Any changes to the dock connector means current Apple device users would need to shell-out cash for an adapter, or purchase new products. The new incarnation of the ubiquitous smartphone is also expected to come with the new iOS 6 mobile operating platform, which was previewed in June. The rumour mill also purports the new device may be equipped with near field communication (NFC) technology, which would turn the iPhone into a digital wallet. According to reports, South Korean-based electronics company Samsung said it is prepared to sue rival Apple for patent infringement if the iPhone 5 uses LTE technology. After reports Monday of LTE capability on the iPhone 5, the South Korean electronics giant "decided to take immediate legal action," an industry source told The Korea Times. Both Samsung and Apple have been embroiled in a series of high-profile patent suits across Europe and the U.S.
