Jordan- Land department employees refuse gov't request to end strike

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) Department of Land and Survey (DLS) employees on Tuesday refused a government request to suspend their strike for a week, bringing real estate transactions to a halt for the sixth consecutive day. During a meeting with several workers, Finance Minister Suleiman Hafez and members of the Lower House Financial Committee explained that citizens' rights are harmed by the strike and urged the workers to suspend it, explaining that the protesters' message has been received. The DLS staff began an open-ended strike last Tuesday, demanding salary raises as well as better working conditions and incentives. The department has 1,600 workers who assist in property-related dealings at 34 directorates across Jordan.
