UAE- Money exchange staff steals owner's diamond necklace

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Sharjah Police have arrested an Indian employee of a money exchange office for stealing jewellery worth Dh347,000 from the safe of his office. The jewellery, which included a gold necklace studded with diamonds worth Dh225,000, belonged to the Emirati woman owner of the money exchange office. The Al Heerah police station received a complaint from the woman's brother-in-law, who suspected an Indian employee, identified as A.A.B, was behind the theft. Originally, the complaint said the thief entered the villa of the complainant's brother and stole the necklace and some other gold jewellery which were kept in a box and wrapped in papers. A police team reached the villa and collected fingerprints and other pieces of evidence. The initial search did not point towards any sign of a break-in. The police learnt that the owner of the jewellery had gone to the money exchange office, which she and her husband own, a few days before and asked the staff to keep the box of jewellery in the safe as she was planning to travel abroad. From this information, the police managed to identify the suspect who confessed that he had stolen the jewellery from the box when it was in the office safe and kept the empty box back. He also informed the police about the shop to which he had sold the stolen jewellery for Dh347,000. The police have referred him to the Public Prosecution.
