Jordan- USAID administrator visits Zaatari camp

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) Planning Minister Jafar Hassan on Wednesday said the government would continue to exert every possible effort to assist humanitarian and international organisations helping Jordan host displaced Syrians. The minister made the remark during a visit to the Zaatari Refugee Camp with USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah. Hassan highlighted the increasing burdens the Syrian refugee influx has placed on Jordan. To meet the growing humanitarian needs, Shah said, the US is providing $21 million in assistance to the UN World Food Programme to supply more food for around 120,000 people in Syria and for Syrian refugees in Jordan and in neighbouring countries. Of this aid, around $2.5 million will be allocated for Syrian refugees in the Kingdom. Shah commended Jordan's efforts in supporting Syrian refugees. Also Wednesday, Health Minister Abdul Latif Wreikat stressed the need to continue providing Syrian refugees in the Kingdom with the needed healthcare services. Inaugurating medical clinics set up by Saudi Arabia in the Zaatari Refugee Camp, Wreikat said the government was working to support displaced Syrians in Jordan in cooperation with international organisations, noting that the ministry has vaccinated Syrian children who fled to Jordan.
