UAE- Bids to smuggle tramadol foiled

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The RAK Customs Department, in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Department of the RAK Police, recently foiled two separate bids to smuggle around 30,000 tramadol pills in 24 hours. According to a senior officer, the first drug haul unfolded when the Anti-Narcotics Department of the RAK Police alerted the RAK Customs that a gang led by a GCC national staying outside the country was trying to smuggle 1,500 tramadol pills into the UAE. "Two people from a GCC country brought in the drugs by land to RAK," said Lt-Col Saeed Mohammed Al Muhairi, acting Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department. "The suspects, the drugs and the vehicle used in smuggling were seized by the RAK Customs officers in cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics Department of the RAK Police at the borders." In the other case, two GCC nationals tried to smuggle in 28,500 tramadol pills with the help of three residents here. "Both cases were referred to the RAK Public Prosecution for legal action."
