Kuwait- Case of MP's brother charged with defaming Islam adjourned

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Criminal Court presided over by Justice Abdul Nasser Khuraibet adjourned until Oct 14 hearing in the State Security case in which the brother of a former MP is charged for defaming and abusing the religion at the social networking site Twitter. The defendant was accused of abusing the Prophet (PBUH) via his personal Twitter account, in an attempt to incite chaos and create division among members of the society. He was also charged for deliberately using his mobile phone to disseminate offensive statements. Earlier, the Public Prosecution released the suspect on KD 1,000 bail after he denied all accusations, and said the account isn't his own. In another case, the Criminal Court set Sept 17, 2012, to look into the case of one of the assistant undersecretaries in the Interior Ministry who is accused of beating a female citizen on a public road. The plaintiff in a complaint to the Shuwaikh Police Station said as a result of the incident she suffered a fracture on one hand and submitted a medical report to substantiate her claim. She explained to the court in detail how the suspect beat while arresting her and then referred her to a police station. The incident happened on June 21, 2012. For his part the defendant refuted the charges calling them baseless allegations. Meanwhile, the Administrative Court presided over by Justice Waleed Al-Hamlan declared a local bank was ineligible to alter the interest rate on two different loans a citizen obtained from the bank. The court required the bank must respect all conditions upon which the agreement had been signed before the loans were granted to the citizen. Earlier, the plaintiff's attorney Ali Al-Ali asked for an expert's opinion in the case, and proposed the expert must personally go to the bank to look at the contracts of the two loans his client received, in addition to conditions both parties had agreed upon before the loans were granted. Al-Ali argued the bank had gone ahead and made certain changes to the sum his client collected with the duration of installment, and as a result, his client filed lawsuit against the bank. The Criminal Court presided by Justice Hmoud Al-Mutawa set Oct 8, 2012, to look into the case of former Minister of Information Mohammed Al-Sanousi and one of his sons. The men are accused of embezzling public money and using this money to hire real estate in the vicinity of touristic projects. The men are also charged with making illegal use of facilities surrounding the project.
