(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Court of Appeal recently upheld the acquittal of an Emirati woman, 29, of the charge of threatening a woman compatriot of cutting her leg off if she ever passed in front of her house.
The appellate court also cleared the defendant of assault and insult charges.
The Court of First Instance earlier acquitted the accused of the threat charge. It ruled that it was out of its jurisdiction to look into the charges of assault and insult the woman faced and referred the defendant to the relevant court.
The complainant, a 36-year-old housewife, said that the incident happened in September last year when she was taking a stroll with her friend.
As they passed by the defendant's house they saw her mother putting flower pots on the pavement and they had a brawl with her. According to them, putting pots there would affect the movement of strollers on the pavement. And the mother, the complainant alleged, accused them of breaking the pots.
At that point the defendant walked out of the house and yelled at them because they were shouting at her mother.
The defendant verbally abused them, the complainant alleged, and threatened to cut their legs off if she saw them outside her house again. The complainant claimed the accused pushed her and was stopped when the defendant's brother, stepped in between them.
The complainant's friend confirmed her statement.
