Turkish court acquits two persons accused of plotting to kill Erdogan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A Turkish court Friday acquitted two persons who were accused of plotting to kill prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Istanbul's supreme crinimal court released the two persons for lack of evidence to end four years of arrest and interrogation, local media reported. The two lawyers submitted a memo to the court requesting immediate release in compliance with the recent amendments on the law which forbids long-term detainment without a trial nor a verdict. The lawyers also demanded the release of four other people in the same case. Turkish police discovered in 2008 ready-to-execute plans aimed at assassinating Erdogan between 2005 and 2007. Consequently the police arrested a number of people and hard-line secular personalities. The Turkish parliament approved a number of amendments on the law aimed at addressing slow judiciary procedure.
