(MENAFN- Jordan Times) His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces, on Wednesday inaugurated Al Hasa Comprehensive Military Medical Centre, which serves area residents and treats casualties resulting from traffic accidents that occur on the desert highway.
Located in the southern governorate of Tafileh, 180km southwest of Amman, the centre was established at a cost of around JD2.6 million to cater to the inhabitants of Jarf Al Daraweesh, Al Abiad, Al Sultani and Al Hasa areas.
During the visit, King Abdullah toured several wards and was briefed on the services provided at the centre, which he issued directives to establish during an earlier visit to the Jafr District, a Royal Court statement said.
Lt. Col. Omar Sawalha, the centre's director, said the facility was designed as an advanced emergency clinic on the desert highway and provides medical treatment to citizens from surrounding areas and members of the Jordan Armed Forces, security bodies and public and private institutions.
The two-storey centre, which started receiving patients in June last year, is supervised by 150 doctors, nurses and medical staff from the Royal Medical Services, Sawalha added.
The facility, which deals with around 40 to 50 patients on a daily basis, includes a helipad, a dialysis unit, radiology department, laboratory and a pharmacy, as well as several clinics for different specialisations such as internal medicine, gynaecology, otolaryngology, ophthalmology and dentistry.
The King checked on the medical services, especially in the emergency, dialysis, surgery and paediatric sections, and spoke with outpatients, who expressed appreciation for the centre, saying it helped improve the quality of medical services in the area, the statement said.
Hamad Nazzal Hajaya said before the centre was set up he had to travel to Aqaba and Tafileh to undergo dialysis.
Hajaya said the centre, which is two kilometres from his house, has helped alleviate his suffering, especially since he needs to undergo dialysis twice a week.
Another patient, Mathayel Oqla, who was with her husband, praised the centre for its "efficiency" in providing health services and dispensing various medications.
