Etihad Airways makes 37th codeshare deal with inks China Eastern

(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi flag carrier Etihad Airways inked an agreement with China Eastern Airlines, as it seeks to include China's domestic market into it global network. Etihad is intensifying efforts, including acquisitions and codeshares, to compete with larger rivals Emirates and Qatar airways in the long-haul market. Under the new codeshare agreement, China Eastern will place its 'MU' code on Etihad flights between the UAE capital and its base in Shanghai. Both airlines have plans to expand their partnership. Shanghai-based China Eastern will place its 'MU' code on Etihad flights to destinations beyond the Chinese carrier's network, while Etihad plans to codeshare on China Eastern's domestic services beyond Shanghai, both companies said in a statement. The new deal brings Etihad's total codeshare agreement to 37. Etihad started service to Shanghai in March.
