US to write off USD 250 mln of Sudan''s debt

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The US Administration would support Sudan with USD 250 million for the coming year to help write off part of the Arab African nation's debt. The Sudan News Agency (SUNA) quoted envoy of US Assistant Treasury Department for African Affairs Jonah Hurley during a meeting with Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance Abdul Rahman Dirar as saying that that the US administration has allocated USD 250 million in the state budget for 2013 as a down payment to help write off Sudan's foreign debt. Hurley, however, noted the aid is linked to achieve progress in Darfur and Blue Nile crises. For his part, Dirar said that linking aid with political demands was a crippling condition, stating that Sudan has finalized the preparation of the periodical strategy for poverty alleviation based on households' budget survey. He urged the international community not to link initiatives to write off debts with Sudan's internal problems.
