UAE- Eight firefighters injured battling warehouse blaze


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Eight Dubai Civil Defence personnel were injured, one of them seriously, as they battled a huge fire that destroyed four warehouses of perfume trading company in Ras Al Khor area on Wednesday. The eight injured personnel were airlifted to Rashid Hospital, while some others who faced minor difficulties like breathlessness were treated on site, said Khalifa bin Darai, Director of the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services. Major-General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Director of the Dubai Civil Defence, said the operations room of the Dubai Police received information around 1.30pm that a fire had erupted in a warehouse of the perfume trading company in the Ras Al Khor Industrial Area. The fire spread to other warehouses also containing empty and full perfume bottles. Fire brigades from Al Rashidya Civil Defence station arrived on the scene soon, followed by support teams from Al Qouz and Ras Al Khor. Civil Defence cordoned off the area and succeeded in preventing the fire from spreading to more warehouses. Maj-Gen Al Matroushi added that the fire was put out in two hours, using water and foam. The cooling operations were still on when this report went to the press. He said forensic experts visited the site and investigations about the cause of the fire would begin soon. He added that the fire caused huge financial losses.
