(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Two Indian engineers aged 32 and 29, identified as O.A. and S.A., who worked for du, stood trial on Wednesday in the Court of First Instance on the charge of stealing Fibre Optic cables belonging to du worth Dh235, 500 used for infrastructure electronic connections.
A third defendant, a 33-year-old Indian sales manager, identified as D.B., is accused of possessing and purchasing the cable knowing the crime committed by the other accomplices. He allegedly got possession of the cables which he purchased for Dh30,000.
O.A. admitted during the Public Prosecution investigation that about one year before the incident was reported in January, he set his eyes on stealing Fibre Optic cables belonging to his workplace. He sold it to a third party as his company was kept in the dark.
Together with S.A., O.A. ordered extra cables to the sites they worked in and sold it to D.B. It first happened in April last year and recurred for three other consecutive times.
They were arrested while they sold cables to D.B. in the evening of January 5.
S.A. admitted during the investigation that he and O.A. planned to sell the stolen cables to D.B. They abused their power on the sites and ordered extra cables while the company was unsuspicious.
D.B. admitted that he owned a fibre network technology shop and purchased the stolen cables for Dh30,000 from the other two defendants and did not collect any receipts for those purchases.
The deputy head of government relations in du told the prosecutor that they exposed O.A. after he posted online ads to sell Fibre Optic cables belonging to du.
The company informed the Criminal Investigation Department and the suspects were arrested.
