UK consumer spending up on London Olympic Games


(MENAFN) Visa, the multinational financial service company, revealed in its latest survey that the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games boosted the spending of the country's consumers, reported Xinhua News. The survey showed that spending on Visa cards at UK restaurants jumped 20.6 percent to USD299.44 million, compared with USD254.76 million a year ago. Furthermore, spending on sporting goods grew 46.5 percent to USD97.20 million, up from last year's USD67.41 million; moreover, spending on cards at bars and clubs reached USD90.93 million, representing a rise of 17.5 percent from last year's USD75.25 million. It is worth noting that British consumers hiked their spending on tickets on their Visa cards by 117.8 percent during the final week of the Olympic Games, to USD72.74 million, from USD33.39 million in 2011.
