UAE- Woman cries, denies murder charge

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A 30-year-old woman burst into tears in court, firmly denying that she had stabbed a man to death with the help of another suspect still at large. The Pakistani defendant, who worked as a receptionist for an artworks company, is accused of murdering a compatriot after luring him into her room in a shared villa in Rashidiya in September last year. She and her accomplice also allegedly stole the victim's mobile phones. She told the Presiding Judge of the Court of First Instance, Mohammed Jamal Kamel, that if she were guilty, she would not have come back to the UAE. The motive of the murder is believed to be an old grudge, as the victim had filed a complaint of bounced cheques against her. She has been charged with premeditated murder and theft. A police captain told the court that the incident was reported in September last year by an Indian man, a leasing agent who had given the defendant a room on rent. "Through investigation, we learnt that she had fled the UAE one day before the murder was discovered and also there were money disputes between the defendant and the victim. The latter had filed two bounced cheque complaints against her at the Naif police station," the police officer told the court. The leads pointed to the involvement of another man who helped her in the crime. "He entered and exited the country on the same day. A police alert was issued to arrest them and she was arrested when she came back," he said. According to the prosecution records, the defendant killed the victim along with her accomplice, a trader who had entered earlier on a visit visa. The victim's body was found lying in a pool of blood in the room with many stab wounds. The Indian leasing agent said during investigation that the defendant called him on his mobile phone to meet her at Terminal 2 of the Dubai International Airport for an urgent matter. She asked him to lend her Dh300 "as one of her acquaintances was leaving for Pakistan and needed money for his sick mother". She also said she wanted to use his mobile phone alleging hers had run out of credit. She promised to meet him in the evening to collect the room's keys and pay the rent. When she did not show up later, he checked his mobile phone to call her but found that her number was erased. He got suspicious and checked her room only to find a man's body the following day. He called the police. The police learnt that the defendant had left the country on the same day she allegedly committed the crime with her accomplice. They also found that she had entered the country about 12 days before and that she had been summoned to the Naif police station over a complaint about two bounced cheques filed by the victim.
