Tokyo Stocks Ends Morning up on Monday

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Tokyo stocks closed the morning slightly higher Monday, supported by hopes for additional easing steps in the U.S. and Europe, though there are concerns about a slowdown in the Japanese economic recovery. The Nikkei Stock Average finished morning trade at 8,892.61, up 1.17 points, or 0.01%, according to the (Nikkei.com) website. The benchmark index opened lower following the release of weaker-than-expected Japanese GDP data for the April-June quarter early in the morning. Concerns spread about a slower recovery in the domestic economy, but buying gradually dominated for blue chips. However, trading remained thin due to the ongoing Bon holiday. The Nikkei average lacked direction throughout the morning due to a lack of incentives after major companies released their earnings. The trading value on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange reached 322.1 billion yen, with 616.78 million shares changing hands.
