UAE- Capital to get women's beach

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A ladies-only beach will soon be a reality for the capital city, confirmed Nahla Hamad Bin Fahad, Head of Beaches at Abu Dhabi Municipality (ADM). Although the project is "still on paper", the ADM has begun talks with developers on its construction at an existing beach off the coast of Al Bateen district, she said. "We are specifying a certain area on the Al Bateen beach which will be one hundred per cent enclosed for ladies," said Bin Fahad, explaining that "huge walls" would enclose the site and ensure the privacy of female visitors. "This is a plan we are working on in response to the demand of women of Abu Dhabi, who wish to have their own separate ladies' beach." ADM's community service department conducts weekly surveys of beach-goers at municipality-administered facilities, says Bin Fahad, to gauge whether patrons' needs are being met. Through feedback from these surveys and ADM's phone hotline, the municipality registered a high level of interest in a beach that would be open exclusively to women. "We need to ensure the beach's privacy and that it will be a safe area for those who are very conservative," said Bin Fahad, referring to female beach-goers who limit their activities at public beaches that are open to both men and women.
