'The Amir has laid out road map for Kuwait'


(MENAFN- Arab Times) A number of Kuwaiti academics said on Monday that the speech given by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Ahmad Sunday night on the occasion of the last 10 days of Ramadan was a road map that described what should be done for the advancement and development of the country. In separate interviews with Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), they said the speech of the Amir was comprehensive and covered all the domestic issues such as maintaining the cohesion of the social fabric, the role of the media at times of challenge, and the importance of freedom. Political science professor at Kuwait University Dr Ibrahim Al-Hadban said that the speech showed that Kuwait is a country with a plurality, where stressed that understanding must prevail. He noted the link between such understanding and freedom that is guaranteed for all but is not to be used for the sake of abusing the other, "which would threaten our national unity." Al-Hadban said the speech stressed that Kuwait is a state of institutions and has a constitution and has laws which must be upheld, stressing the independence of the judiciary. "One should not doubt or hesitate; these are the state's points of reference in all cases." Media professor at Kuwait University Dr Khalid Al-Qahs said the speech of the Amir chose well to focus on and tackle the issue of national unity and the need to ensure overall social cohesion, pointing out that this issue is sensitive because the comprehensive development can not be achieved without the presence of united people that respect each other's differences. Head of Media department at Kuwait University Dr Menawer Al-Rajhi said that the speech of the Amir was focused, clear, and accurate and was the road map outlining the approach that should be pursued by everyone for the sake of the country and its people. He added that the speech focused on the basics of democracy and the rights of individuals within the framework of the Constitution, which guarantees the freedoms that are countered by responsibilities, indicating that following these basic guidelines is what guarantees the country's development and meeting the aspirations of its citizens.
