(MENAFN - Arab Times) Cooperative Societies Union is expecting a 40 percent increase in the price of eggs, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting informed sources.
They revealed that scarcity in poultry feed and resultant increase of prices of the commodity is the reason for the expected increase in prices of eggs.
They added that the poultry companies have warned Ministry of Commerce and Industry about the possible hike of between 25 to 40 percent in the poultry prices in future.
Chairman of the Cooperative Societies Union Abdul Aziz Al-Samhan confirmed this news by saying the country could experience a hike in poultry prices in the future.
He indicated that this crisis is due to a worldwide scarcity of poultry feed and urged the people of Kuwait to be cooperative in finding a solution to the problem.
Furthermore, he affirmed that discussions are ongoing between the Cooperative Societies Union and Ministry of Commerce to deal with this problem, adding that they do not have any control on this price hike as it is linked to the international market.
He assured that even if the poultry prices are hiked in the coming days, there is a possibility that these would come down in the future.

She added, the main concern of the government at this point in time is how to push forward the development wheel and promote economic reforms to help citizens, particularly the middle class.
