UAE- 257 violations, Dh201140 fine

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) This is one feat she wouldn't take pride in. At least, the police hope so. A Bangladeshi woman has topped the list of traffic law violators in Dubai, committing 257 offences and running up a total fine of Dh201,140 in three months! Following her notorious route is also a woman, from Syria, who committed 288 offences in the same period, that is from April to June this year, and has fines of Dh186,900 pending against her name. An Egyptian motorist has come third with 236 offences worth Dh169,420 in fines. For all three, speeding is their common obsession. Colonel Saif Al Mazroui, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic of the Dubai Police, gave out the details of the traffic records for the period. He said that it is for the first time that a Bangladeshi woman has topped the list of traffic offenders in the emirate. An Indian motorist is the fourth on the list, as he has fines of Dh137,400, though he committed only 216 offences, two less than the offences by a UAE national who, however, is listed in the sixth position because his fines were worth less - only Dh134,160. An Iraqi man has come fifth with fines worth Dh135,100. Col Al Mazroui did not announce the number of offences committed by this person. An Emirati man has been listed seventh with 204 instances of violations and Dh129,210 in fines, followed again by a compatriot who committed 206 traffic law violations worth 125,700 in fines. Two Emirati women have come in the ninth and tenth places, with fines of Dh125,700 for 218 offences and fines worth Dh118,670 for 183 offences, respectively. Colonel Al Mazroui noted that 17 top offending motorists have accumulated fines worth Dh2 million (Dh2,090,325 exactly). The majority of the offenders have been nationals, including three women. He said the department has been flexible with people who are cooperative with the police, as per the instructions of Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Director of department. It gives them options like payment of fines in instalments if they are worth over 10,000. The department also sends an SMS to the motorist when he/she crosses this limit and phones the person later to warn about the dangerous course he/she is on. A large number of motorists have benefitted from the discounts offered to them for four months for paying up accumulated fines. Now, the department is following up with them. "The department has kept its doors for motorists who have complaints regarding the recording of offices and fines. The police will study their cases, and if their objections are found valid, the recoded offence and the fine will be cancelled," Colonel Al Mazroui said.
