Oman- Farm worker receives power bill of RO1,278

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Mohammed Kakam, a Bangladeshi farm worker in Sohar, was in for a major surprise when he recently received an electricity bill of RO1,278 for one month.

''I stay in a single room, for which I pay RO60 as rent. I do not have any equipment which consumes too much electricity. I do possess an air-conditioner which is old and seldom used,'' Mohammed Kakam said.

''I have been living in Oman for many years. This is the first time I received this kind of an inflated bill. When I received the bill, I initially thought the bill might be for another building owned by the employer. However, after checking the meter number and the account details, I understood that the bill was for my house from June 12 to July 11. The bill, amounting to RO1,278.325, also stated that I consumed 6,963 units of power during this period. Usually, my monthly electricity bill does not exceed RO9.''

According to Sohar unit of Majan Electricity, which distributes power in the Batinah governorate, they have received a complaint from Kakam, and the concerned department is following it up.

A spokesperson for Majan Electricity said that in case of incorrect bills, anybody can approach the customer care department and get it corrected.
