(MENAFN- Jordan Times) Approximately 18 cases of tuberculosis have been diagnosed in displaced Syrians in Jordan, a Ministry of Health official said on Wednesday.
Khalid Abu Rumman, director of the ministry's respiratory diseases department, said those patients are receiving treatment at public health facilities and are being treated like Jordanian patients.
He also noted that in order to prevent the spread of diseases among Syrian refugees, water and sanitation practices in refugee facilities are monitored.
Meanwhile, in a statement sent to The Jordan Times, Minister of Health Abdul Latif Wreikat stressed that the Kingdom will continue providing healthcare services for Syrian refugees, despite the economic burden that entails.
The minister also called on international organisations and agencies to support Jordan in providing healthcare facilities for Syrians in order to ease this burden.
According to the ministry's figures, some 30,000 Syrians have been treated in the country's medical facilities, while 25,000 children under the age of five have been inoculated at a cost of JD800,000.
In a previous statement, Wreikat said the cost of providing health services for the Syrians currently staying in Jordan will reach JD30 million this year.
Over 150,000 Syrians have entered the Kingdom since the start of a violent crackdown on dissent in their country early last year.
