(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) At least 7,000 cattle, sheep and goats have been slaughtered at the Bausher abattoir during the past three weeks.
A Muscat Municipality official, said, ''The livestock supply has kept pace with the demand during this festive season.
"There is a huge livestock demand during Ramadan and Eid, and prices of animals sometimes too go up accordingly.''
The official said companies have been asked to boost livestock import to keep pace with the rising demand.
He said that out of the approximate 7,000 slaughtered animals, six animals and 100 livers were deemed unfit for human consumption and destroyed.
Dr Shawqi bin Abdulrahman A'Zadjali, director of the central slaughterhouse department in Bausher, said people preferred visiting the slaughterhouse due to its safe and hygienic practices.
The capacity of the abattoir too has been raised to keep pace with the demand during this time of the year.
''The municipality has taken a number of measures to ensure the safety of meat and preserve general hygiene. All animals are to be tested by veterinarians before slaughter.
''The Central Slaughterhouse in Bausher has completed its preparations and upgraded slaughtering halls for the upcoming busy season,'' Zadjali said
