(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has asked the National Ferries Company (NFC), to facilitate the transport of livestock from the governorate of Musandam to North Batinah, in order to boost supply during Ramadan and Eid al Fitr.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries had recently issued directives for livestock companies to import any number of live animals without restriction on type or gender from the UAE.
With Musandam being close to Iran and the thriving trade between the ports of the two countries, it is expected that this measure will provide enough incentive for companies to import livestock from Iran through Musandam to ease the rising demand.
Ghazi al Zedjali, head of marketing and communication, NFC, told Muscat Daily that the ferry company is ready with its landing craft Al Halaniyat, with a capacity of 833 tonnes, to provide its support.
''The government is planning transport of livestock from Khasab port to Shinas port to support the local market.
''From our side we are ready after the vessel was deployed a couple of days back at the Khasab port.''
He added that the company is ready and waiting for orders to take any shipment.
''We had to make some modifications in the ship's ramps so as to safely anchor at Shinas port, as the port is currently suitable for high speed crafts only.'
