(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Court of First Instance on Sunday adjourned the case of Emirati man H.S. who, along with his compatriot girlfriend A.A. is accused of torturing to death his eight-year-old daughter, Wadeema, to September 19 as the psychiatric reports on both of them have not come out yet.
The court bench, presided by Judge Maher Salama Al Mahdi, ordered that the Public Prosecution expedite getting the medical reports on the defendants' mental conditions and bring A.A. from hospital, where she was under police custody, to attend the hearing. Only H.S. was brought to the court from jail on Sunday.
The court earlier ordered that both H.S. and A.A. be evaluated by a psychiatrist panel as it wants to determine whether they suffered from any mental illness and whether, if any, it affects their behaviour, consciousness and perception of acts and consequences mainly at the time of the crimes they committed.
H.S. is accused of torturing and illegally confining and depriving his daughters, Wadeema and seven-year-old Mira, of their freedom for about six months with the use of force, which led to the death of the elder daughter and the injury of the other.
