UAE- Passenger held with 7kg cocaine

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The General Department of Anti-Narcotics of the Dubai Police has arrested a Turkish transit passenger for allegedly carrying 7.124kg of cocaine hidden in his luggage. Major-General Abdul Jalil Mahdi, Director of the department, said the police received secret information that a Turkish traveller, B.D, who was coming from Brazil via Dubai on his way to one of the Arab states, was carrying cocaine. On his arrival, he was frisked thoroughly by the police who did not find any drugs on him but when his luggage was subjected to an X-ray scan, a white substance was noticed. He was referred to the anti-narcotics office at the Dubai International Airport and after re-inspection of his bags, the police found six plastic bags hidden in secret corners of the bag with some substance that had the colour and appearance of coffee to dupe the police. On further checking the coffee bag, the police found another transparent plastic bag that contained a white substance similar to cocaine, weighing 3.56kg. When searched further, they found six more plastic bags weighing 3.564kg. Maj-Gen Abdul Jalil said the total quantity of cocaine seized was 7.124kg. The police have been organising specialised courses throughout the year for anti-narcotics officers to enhance their skills to detect the tricks used by drug dealers to smuggle drugs through Dubai International Airport in a bid to protect the community, especially the youth, from consequences of falling into the clutches of drugs, he said. The police are also spreading awareness among individuals on dangers and negative impacts of drugs on people and the economy. Maj-Gen Abdul Jalil said cocaine is a strong natural stimulant and was discovered in the mid-19th century. Cocaine powder has white colour if it is pure but if it has impurities, then the colour changes to dark (beige) and this is used for inhaling, dissolving in water, intravenous injection or smoking.
