Dubai- 13 Filipino workers repatriated

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A group of 13 Filipino workers arrived in Manila from Dubai on Sunday after being repatriated by the Philippine Consulate in Dubai in a series of repatriation initiatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila. Benito B. Valeriano, Philippine Consul-General in Dubai, said that the department authorised the consulate to repatriate 35 workers. "These are workers, who have run away from their employers and whose cases have already been terminated and are now ready to go home," he said. Vice-Consul Geronimo Suliguin, who is supervising the Assistance to Nationals (ATN) in Dubai, said that the repatriation initiatives are done under the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs through the Assistance to Nationals Fund (ATN Fund) of the department. Suliguin and Labour Attache Delmer Cruz saw the group off at the airport. They went on a Gulf Air flight. Assistance to Nationals officials Mohammad Javier Pukunum, Roberto Dayacap and Jennifer Evangelista assisted these workers in complying with the documentary requirements to be able to depart from the UAE to the Philippines. Suliguin said that the group is the single biggest benefitting from repatriation assistance this year and reflects the cooperation between the consulate and local authorities in making sure the necessary papers are in order and promptly processed. He said that aside from this group, smaller ones were repatriated earlier totalling 15 workers. "We are looking forward to repatriate around 17 more, hopefully, once their papers are processed at the immigration."
