Jordan- Two men convicted of murdering Egyptian for his sheep

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) The Criminal Court has sentenced two men to 10-year prison terms for murdering an Egyptian and stealing his sheep in a farm in the southern region in January 2009. The court first handed the defendants M.W., 26, and F.A., 30, the death sentence after convicting them of the premeditated murder of Sabri Mayah and the theft of his sheep on January 29. But the tribunal decided to reduce the sentence to 10 years because the victim's family dropped charges against the defendants. Court transcripts said that M. W. was going through financial problems and decided to rob the sheep from the farm where the victim worked. "The defendant asked F. A. to help him and on the day of the incident the two men headed to the farm, where they asked for the victim's help after claiming engine problems," the 11-page verdict said. They overpowered the victim, tied him up and then strangled him to death, according to the court. They tried to round up the sheep but only managed to catch two as the rest ran away; they also stole his mobile before leaving, the court said. The court comprised judges Fawzi Nahar, Hazem Saeed and Hussein Tharabaa. The Cassation Court has started reviewing the verdict, which was issued in late June.
