UAE- Two new sectors under Mawaqif

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Two new sectors in the busy Central Market area will come under Mawaqif parking management on August 12, the Department of Transport (DoT) has announced. Residential parking permits for the two sectors will be provided free of charge for the next six months. Together, the two sectors comprise 1,297 parking spaces. The larger sector, containing almost 1,000 spaces, is located between Corniche Road, Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Airport Road and Liwa Street. The other sector is situated between Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Hamdan Street, Airport Road and Liwa Street. The DoT said it is bringing these sectors under Mawaqif management to survey the residential and commercial requirements of the area, paving the way for full implementation. "It is our aim at the DoT through Mawaqif to resolve parking issues in Abu Dhabi, especially in congested and commercial areas like the Central Market area, whose residents called upon us to implement the Mawaqif parking management programme there to curb residents of other areas from parking in these two busy sectors," said Mawaqif General Manager Mohamed Nasser Al Otaiba. The new sectors will initially come under Mawaqif's Ramadan timings, with payment required from 9am to 4pm and 10.30pm to 2.30am. After the Eid holidays, parking fees will apply during the standard time of 8am to 12am, Saturday to Thursday. Hourly rates are Dh2 for standard parking at blue and black curbs and Dh3 for premium parking at blue and white curbs. Full day standard parking costs Dh15, and premium parking is limited to four hours.
