(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) An Ethiopian maid told a Court of First Instance bench on Thursday that a man lured her to go out with him promising to help her find a better job and offered her a drink after which she lost consciousness only to wake up the next day and find herself lying naked beside him in a hotel room.
The 29-year-old maid said this when Presiding Judge of the bench Ahmed Shiha quizzed her about her alleged rape by a compatriot guard. The guard is facing charges of rape and alcohol consumption.
The maid told the judge that she did not know the drink she had was alcohol. She did not know whether the defendant raped her. "I woke up and found myself naked next to him," she said in the court.
She said she drank with the defendant to please him so that he would help her get a better job. She also said she was a virgin before the incident.
Judge Shiha adjourned the hearing to next month to hear the witnesses in the case.
According to the prosecution, the maid said during investigation that she went out with the defendant that night in September last year as he promised to help her find a better job. She carried a passport copy and her photograph.
She had met him more than a week earlier at a restaurant in Karama. He introduced himself to her and her girlfriend and said he was willing to help her find a good job.
She met him that night in the lobby of a hotel whose manager, he said, had agreed to employ her. She handed him her documents.
They went out and had dinner and then went to a wedding party at a hotel where they had alcohol. Though it was her first time, she drank alcohol to please the defendant as she did not want to lose the job opportunity. She felt dizzy and remembered only walking out with the accused.
When she woke up the following day, she was lying naked with the defendant in a hotel room. The defendant told her that they had sex and wanted to have sex again. She did not want to and he did not force her.
She got dressed and took a cab to her sponsor's house in Sharjah. She told her friend about what happened and later filed a police complaint.
According to the report of the Criminal Lab, the DNA of the semen stains lifted from the complainant matched with the defendant's.
