(MENAFN- Jordan Times) Islamists are ready to discuss a new formula for the Elections Law, provided that the one-person, one-vote system is abolished, deputy overall leader of the Muslim Brotherhood Zaki Bani Rsheid said on Monday.
But the recently appointed group spokesperson, Murad Adayleh, stressed that "our clear position for now is that we are boycotting the upcoming polls under the 2012 Elections Law".
The group along with dozens of popular movements and other opposition parties and reformists announced, over the past weeks, their boycott of the polls in protest against a law that they said reinstates the one-person, one-vote system by granting each voter only one vote at the district level.
However, Adayleh noted that the group will deal with any future suggestions, in connection to the participation in the polls, in later stages as soon as the authorities put such proposals on the table.
Earlier this week, the group announced that the boycott decision does not include registration in the electoral list, a move the government welcomed, describing it as a positive one.
"This will increase participation in the polls," Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications and Government Spokesperson Samih Maaytah said Monday.
Political exclusion is an outcome of the boycott, but participation will lead for the desired changes, he noted.
Islamists did not close all doors in connection to accepting a new electoral formula, but they want the reform process to be serious and concrete, Adayleh said.
