Hyundai to withdraw Santa Fe, Sonata sedans on air bags issues

(MENAFN) South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co. said it will withdraw thousands of Santa Fe SUVs and Sonata sedans to fix air bags problems, AP reported. The recall will include 200,000 Santa Fe vehicles made between 2007 and 2009, the company said. Hyundai received complaints from some adults under 59 Kilograms whose air bags didn't deploy. Hyundai dealers will reprogram the front passenger air bag sensors so they will accurately detect when a small adult is seated, the company said. No injuries have been reported, the company said, adding that the air bags were originally programmed not to go off to protect children. On the other hand, some 22,500 Sonata sedans from the 2012 and 2013 model years will also be recalled because their side air bags could go off without warning, the company said. Hyundai said it received 16 complaints about the Sonata's air bags, but no injuries have been reported.
