UAE- Girls' torture: Accused under psychiatric evaluation

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Court of First Instance on Wednesday adjourned the case against Emirati father H.S. and his compatriot girlfriend A.A., who are accused of torturing to death the former's eight-year-old daughter, Wadeema, to August 5 as both of them are still under psychiatric assessment at the hospital. The court bench, presided by Judge Maher Salama Al Mahdi, earlier ordered that both of them be referred to the Psychiatric Section of Rashid Hospital to be examined by a psychiatrist panel. The court wants to determine whether H.S. and A.A. suffered from any mental illness and whether, if any, it affects their behaviour, consciousness and perception of acts and consequences mainly at the time of the crimes they allegedly committed. A detailed psychiatrist report would be prepared about the two. Twenty-nine-year-old H.S. is accused of torturing and illegally confining and depriving his two daughters, Wadeema and seven-year-old Mira, of their freedom for about six months with the use of force, which led to the death of the elder and the 10 per cent permanent disability of the younger one caused by burns all over her body. He earlier pleaded not guilty.H.S., an ex-security supervisor, admitted earlier, however, that he hid Wadeema's body by burying it in a remote desert location at Al Badayer in Sharjah without proper official authorisation. He claimed that he was mentally ill and was not aware of what he was doing then. His 27-year-old accomplice, A.A. who was his live-in girlfriend then, earlier pleaded guilty to the torture and confinement charges claiming she did it by on her own. She also admitted she hid the victim's body with H.S. Wadeema's body was found in May about six months after the alleged torture.
