(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) A 20-year-old Emirati student was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday by the Court of First Instance for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old schoolboy.
The verdict remains subject to appeal within 15 days at the Court of Appeal. According to prosecution records, the Emirati defendant lured the victim, his compatriot, into his bedroom where he made him by force swallow a mind-altering substance. Later, he sexually assaulted the teen after threatening to hurt him with a knife.
He also filmed the assault and blackmailed the teen that he would circulate the video if he told his parents.
The defendant, identified as A.S., had a criminal record in similar cases. The teen told the prosecutor that he was playing soccer in Nad Shamma on an evening in October last year when three youths including the defendant picked him up in their car.
They took him to the defendant's place in Rashidiyah where they stayed outside for about two hours. It was late for him to stay out and the teen was not taking his father's calls but was asking the others to drop him home, in vain.
The defendant lured him to go to his bedroom saying that he needed help in carrying some stuff.
There, grabbing his neck, the accused made the teen by force take a mind-altering pill.
They went outside again where they stayed for about 30 minutes. The defendant sent his friend to buy soda and then took the teen, who was then feeling dizzy, again to his bedroom.
He locked the door and switched off the boy's mobile phone. He then twisted the boy's arm and told him that he would hold him up till the morning and not let him talk to his parents if he did not do as told.
The defendant then sexually assaulted the boy after threatening to beat and hurt him with a knife. He filmed the assault using his mobile phone and threatened to circulate it if the boy told his parents or anybody about the incident.
The boy did not let the defendant or other youths drop him home. He met a friend as he was walking home and rode with him. He spent the night at his friend's as his father would not let him in the house at 3am.
He informed his mother two days later and his father filed a complaint at the Rashidiyah Police Station. According to the report of the General Directorate of Criminal Evidence, the DNA of the semen stains found in the teen matched with the defendant's.
