UAE- Four accused of possessing 50kg of heroin


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Four Pakistanis stood trial in the Court of First Instance on Monday on the charge of possessing more than 50kg of heroin for peddling. According to the prosecution records, the four, including a mechanic, a visitor, a worker and a driver, aged between 22 and 40, possessed 50.4kg of heroin hidden in orange boxes when the anti-narcotics officers arrested them in April in Rashidiya. They were planning to transport, store and then deliver the consignment to an African man. A police major with the Anti-Narcotics Department said during the Public Prosecution investigation that they received reliable information that the mechanic was in the Fruit and Vegetable Market in Al Aweer and would receive a big quantity of drugs which he would store and deliver the contraband to an African. The police learnt that the mechanic would rent pick-up vehicles to transport it. On a day in April and after acquiring search and arrest warrants from the Public Prosecution, the police arrested the defendants from Al Aweer. A police lieutenant, who was part of the unit that arrested the defendants, found bags of heroin hidden in the bottom of orange boxes he searched and which were unloaded from a container to five pick-up vehicles, which were rented by the defendant for that purpose. The police officers searched the boxes in the pick-ups. They found 657 plastic bags containing more than 50kg of heroin. The accused were taken to the General Directorate of Anti-Narcotics and the heroin was seized. The police also found a small amount of the drug in the car the defendants arrived in to transport the drugs in Al Aweer. When questioned, the mechanic admitted that he knew that the drugs were hidden in the orange boxes. He admitted he came to Al Aweer to take the quantity and transport and hide it in another place. The plan was to deliver the drugs to a Nigerian. He had met the Nigerian earlier and collected Dh5,600 from him to rent a place where he could store the drugs.He later received Dh15,000 as part of the job. The visitor claimed he was with the mechanic but did not know about the drugs.The worker admitted to the police that he knew about the drugs and was to collect Dh1,000 to Dh3,000 from the mechanic for his help. The driver told the officers that he was aware about the drugs in the orange boxes. According to the Criminal Lab report, the 50.4kg of the substance found in 657 bags was heroin.
