UAE- Farm owners fined for illegal activities

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Dhaid Municipality issued fines to 110 farm owners in the first six months of this year for allowing the farms to be used for illegal and unethical practices. Musbah Al Tunaiji, Director of the municipality, said that intensified efforts by the civic body this year helped reduce violations at farms by 65 per cent compared to the same period last year. He said that the municipality had received complaints from nationals about illegal activities such as gambling, drinking, parties and immoral behaviour, taking place at the farms. He said that the municipality inspectors made surprise visits to 3,000 farms in the municipality. They found laboratories set up and buildings constructed without permission and farm sites used for burning waste. Other illegal practices included preparation of tobacco and niswar. Tunaiji said that lack of awareness among the farmers had earlier led to increase in violations at the farms. The farms were granted to UAE nationals for farming and for family entertainment. The owners rented the farms to Asians who used them for purposes other than farming. They build small houses to rent them for absconders and illegals.
