Jordan- More scheduled power cuts unlikely

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) The National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) on Monday said it was unlikely that scheduled power cuts would be implemented during the remainder of the summer unless there is another heatwave stronger than the one the Kingdom experienced last week. NEPCO Director General Ghaleb Maabreh said if new heatwaves occur, the company may resort to pre-planned power outages in order to lessen the burden on the national grid in coordination with the Electricity Regulatory Commission and power distribution companies. He also said the power grid is capable of coping with any emergency that may arise during the rest of the summer, especially since electricity loads decrease by 100 to 150 megawatts during Ramadan and generally go down during Eid Al Fitr, the Muslim feast marking the end of the fasting month.
