US awards USD100m to Jordan to help economy

(MENAFN) The US agreed to award an additional USD100 million to Jordan to support the Kingdom's 2012 budget and to ease the burden of hosting Syrian refugees, the Jordan Times reported. This was announced at a press conference held in Amman by Planning and International Cooperation Minister Jafar Hassan and US Ambassador to Jordan Stuart Jones. Hassan said that the aide was aimed to support Jordan's economy, which was hit by international and regional economic uncertainties, particularly its energy bill. He added that the amount will help Jordan to continue its humanitarian aid to thousands of Syrian refugees, indicating that the two countries are scheduled to sign the grant agreement before the end of August. The minister also noted that the regular US economic aid programme to Jordan, worth USD360 million, will be signed in September.
