Tyre safety drive launched

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Sharjah Police have kicked off a new tyre safety campaign as part of the ongoing campaign titled "A summer with no accidents". The new awareness drive aims to ensure that the motorists using various internal and external roads of the emirate check the condition of their vehicles' tyres before setting out from their houses or offices. During the campaign, brochures in Arabic and English will be distributed among motorists and truck drivers to educate them about the importance of regularly checking the safety of their tyres and the dangers of driving vehicles with worn-out or old tyres. Captian Abdel Rahman Khater, Director of the Traffic Awareness and Media Department, said the condition of car tyres is a major factor in fatal road accidents. "This time of the year witnesses very hot temperature that affects the asphalt on the roads, which develop cracks and cause tyre bursts or gradual wearing out of tyres. During summer, more people travel by cars and we witness more accidents linked to car tyres. They should double check the safety of their cars and tyres before travelling," he said.
