Dubai Quran Award lectures start today


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) "Renowned Egyptian scholar Dr Omar Abdulkafi shall then give a lecture on the glory and beauty of the Quran on Sunday, followed by a lecture themed 'Under the tree' by popular Saudi scholar Sheikh Sulaiman Al Jubailan on Monday. "Further, the programme includes three more lectures on the 'Charm of the Quran' by Dr Essam Al Uwaid, the 'People of the Quran' by Dr Khalid Al Musleh, and finally 'Words only said by a Creator' by Dr Sabri Al Demerdash," he said. The 19-lecture programme is to take place in three areas: the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (for men and women), Women Renaissance Society (for women only), and Social Reform Society (open for foreign communities). "All lectures are slated to start at 10.15pm after the Tarawih prayer. Meanwhile, eight lectures will be delivered for women only at the Women Renaissance Society. Dr Omar Abdulkafi will start the women-only programme with a lecture on the difference between worship and habits tonight. The other lectures are to spotlight some issues such as the scientific aspects in worship, the role of the Quran in life-making, the story of Adam sons' crow, how to truly understand the Quran, and how to be in God's company. As for non-Arabic-speaking residents, Sheikh Kazi Ibrahim will start the cultural programme with a lecture in Bengali on 'Worship in Islam' next Friday at the Social Reform Society, Al Twar area. The remaining four lectures will be given in Malayalam on the 'Role of Quran in protecting human rights', 'Human relations in Quranic vision', 'Hadith and modern science', and the 'Holy Quran awakening of humanity'. The 11-category award, which is aimed to serve the Holy Quran and promote the general standard of Quranic performance, has contacted over 160 countries to participate in the competition which is held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. "Big prizes are given toppers: the first winner is awarded Dh250,000 while the second is given 200,000, and the third Dh150,000. The person who comes fourth will get Dh65,000 and those coming up to the tenth position will get Dh5,000 less than the person who comes above him. The rest of the participants will get a bonus of Dh30,000 each," he said.
