(MENAFN- Arab Times) A ceremony took place on July 17, 2012 at P.F. Chang's, The Avenues, where students with special needs were recognised for their efforts in Alshaya's Retail Summer Programme. As part of a collaboration between M.H. Alshaya Co and the Kuwait Society for Guardians of the Disabled (KSGD), young Kuwaiti men and women with special needs were provided with part-time employment opportunities in several of Alshaya's stores over the course of four weeks.
Participants were awarded certificates of achievement at the ceremony, which was also attended by family members, Chairwoman of the KSGD, Rehab Boresli, Vice-President of the KSGD, Hana Al-Sane and Honorary Chairperson of the Kuwait Sport Club for the Physically Disabled, Sheikha Sheikha Al-Sabah.
This joint venture between Alshaya and the KSGD began with an initiative from Starbucks in 2010, which set out to offer participants of the programme with part-time positions across many of its stores in Kuwait.
This year the programme oversaw 13 students placed across three Alshaya operated brands in the country; Mothercare, Debenhams and Starbucks.
The students performed various retail related tasks and functions and in addition, five of the students also acted as supervisors to their co-workers, guiding their performance throughout the summer initiative. All the students enjoyed their time with Alshaya and have learnt valuable retail and life skills from working alongside our instore teams.
