Jordan 'ready' to help train Yemen army

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) Jordan stands by Yemen and is ready to provide the needed assistance in rehabilitating the Gulf country's military, Jordanian officials said Tuesday. Deputy Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Maj. Gen. Ziad Majali and an accompanying military delegation met with Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi in Sanaa on Tuesday, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Discussions during the meeting covered issues related to the Yemeni military institution and its need for rehabilitation. The president highlighted that the crisis witnessed in his country last year has affected the unity of the Yemeni army and left the country threatened by a civil war. For his part, Majali said "Jordan stands by Yemen and will continue to cooperate with it at all levels", Petra reported. During the meeting, Jordan's Ambassador to Yemen Suleiman Ghweiri also stressed the Kingdom's readiness to assist Yemen in its transition. During a meeting earlier this month with Yemeni Army Chief-of-Staff Maj. Gen. Ahmad Ali Ashoul, Ghweiri said Jordan was considering a request by Yemen to provide training to rehabilitate members of the Yemeni army. Jordan has provided training to Afghan, Iraqi and Libyan police officers.
