(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Group of 29 organized Sunday a peaceful demonstration in front of the Admission and Registration Office at Kuwait University (KU) for the second consecutive week to demand for the admission of outstanding Bedoun students into the university.
Several Kuwaiti activists and representatives of various political blocs participated in the demonstration, including Development Bloc member Ahmad Al-Dayyen, Secretary General of the Democratic Platform Yousef Al-Shayeji and activist Dr Hamad Al-Ansari, in addition to the representatives of students' lists â€" Democratic Circle, Independent List and Islamic List.
Speaking during the protest action, Lami Al-Othman, a writer and a Group of 29 member, claimed the discriminatory admissions policy of the university has not only deprived the outstanding Bedoun students of their right to continue their studies but also the entire Kuwaiti nation's right to benefit from the skills of these students.
Al-Othman also accused the Central System for Remedying the Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR) of putting more pressure and restrictions on Bedouns, adding that the agency has failed to address the problems of these people in the last seven years. She cited as a case in point the failure to issue birth certificates to Bedoun students, indicating that the document is required for the students' enrollment.
It can be recalled that the group organized a series of peaceful protest actions last week to put pressure on the KU administration and the minister of education to take the necessary steps to allow 140 outstanding Bedoun students to register at the university. They also announced their plan to continue holding demonstrations until their demands are met.

Sources said Al-Nefessi decided to resign due to certain problems and his disputes with the teaching staff, who had accused him of delaying the implementation of decisions related to the additional work load.
