Unicef hails UAE efforts in Yemen 

(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) The initiatives by the UAE for Yemen enhance efforts to alleviate suffering from food shortages and minimise the consequences on the lives of Yemenis in the governorates which are the most affected by the crisis, Geert Cappelaere, Representative of the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (Unicef) in Yemen, has said.

Cappelaere, in remarks during a visit to the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) in Abu Dhabi, praised relief operations by RCA to provide food and other emergency humanitarian supplies to Yemeni people as a major contribution to efforts to fend off the risks children currently encounter in Yemen.

In Abu Dhabi, the Unicef official held talks with top RCA officials on ways to bolster partnership and humanitarian coordination for Yemen.

Mothers and children, Cappelaere said, are a priority now for Unicef's efforts in Yemen as they bear the brunt of the crisis. The UAE's "Sanadhum" humanitarian campaign showed the solidarity of the Emirati people with the Yemeni people who are facing a difficult humanitarian situation.

Mohammed Atiq Al Falahi, Secretary-General of the RCA, said Yemen is a priority in the plans and efforts by the UAE's humanitarian major and works in line with directives by the prudent leadership and its operations are closely followed up by Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of RCA.
