US companies scaling back hiring plans: June survey

(MENAFN) A survey conducted by the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) found that fewer US firms are planning to hire, while a rising share of firms are affected by the European debt crisis, as it is trimming their sales, Reuters reported. The report showed that only 23 percent of the firms polled in June plan to increase staff in the next six months, down from NABE's prior survey, conducted in late March and early April, which had shown 39 percent of companies planning to add workers. US companies' hiring has already slowed significantly in recent months amid growing worries about a sagging global economy hurt by Europe's ballooning debt crisis. The NABE survey suggests such caution on hiring could continue. The poll showed 47 percent of companies polled said their sales were hurt due to Europe's woes. This was worse among companies that produce goods rather than provide services, with nearly four in five reporting a Europe-driven decline in revenues.
