Saudi Arabia awards USD97m contracts for water projects


(MENAFN) Saudi Ministry of Water and Electricity inked USD97 million contracts for new water and sanitation projects across the Kingdom, state news agency SPA reported. The government seeks to address urbanization and rapid population growth in different cities in the Kingdom. In May, Saudi Arabia unveiled plans to implement a series of water projects at a total cost of USD53.26 billion, and power projects at a cost of USD79.88 billion over the next 10 years. The Kingdom is witnessing an annual demand growth for water by 7 percent to 8 percent, with about 7 million cubic metres of water consumed daily.
