Italy's 2012 economy to shrink less than 2%: Minister

(MENAFN) Italy's economy minister, Vittorio Grilli, stated that the country's 2012 gross domestic product (GDP) is forecasted to contract less than 2 percent, reported an Italian newspaper. Grilli said that in 2012, over USD12 billion of revenues will result from measures carried out by the government to combat tax evasion, according to the Corriere della Sera newspaper. The minister added that he hopes to see a multi-year plan to privatize public assets, a move expected to bring in between USD18.37 billion and USD24.49 billion on annual basis. It is worth noting that the Bank of Italy has expected the economy to contract by 2 percent during the current year, whereas the employers' lobby Confindustria has projected the contraction to exceed 2.4 percent.
