US, Brazil ink agreement to enhance customs collaboration


(MENAFN) Brazil's Finance Minister Guido Mantega and US Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano inked an agreement to enhance customs collaboration and support trade relations, reported Xinhua News. The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation to combat organized crime at ports of entry and vowed to protect land, sea and air entries. According to the deal, the two countries will establish a work group to study means of facilitating the granting of visas. Moreover, they agreed to boost the observance of practices and standards recommended by the World Customs Organization (WCO), an organization formed to develop, simplify and harmonize customs procedures, in addition to facilitate international trade and improve customs enforcement globally. It is worth noting that US President Barack Obama announced that lessening visa curbs for Brazilians was a priority to encourage tourism.
