Jordan- Food stores to cover rising Ramadan demand

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) President of the Foodstuff Traders Association (FTA) Samer Jawabreh on Saturday said enough food items are currently in stock to cover rising consumer demand during the holy month of Ramadan. During a tour of large supermarkets, Jawabreh noted that 30,000 tonnes of rice and 30,000 tonnes of sugar were imported to the local market to cover Ramadan and the following months. The FTA president said in a statement e-mailed to The Jordan Times that over 350,000 live sheep are available in the market, imported from Australia, Romania and Georgia. Also Saturday, the Consumer Protection Society called on the government to prevent any attempts by traders to take advantage of Ramadan by hiking prices. The society said Jordanians should also avoid unnecessary spending in the holy month.
